C1840-60 American single barrel percussion fowler. Unlike most shotguns of the period that were marked indicating English or Belgian manufacture, this one is completely unmarked, even on removing the barrel and lock, suggesting American manufacture. 38" half octagon, half round barrel of slightly heavier weight. 10 gauge. Plain german silver triggerguard and buttplate. Iron parts have attractive patina overall with some minor pitting in the nipple area. Stock has an attractive grain and original varnished finish showing scattered marks from handling over the years, has long slivers missing from the forearm edges and a crack by one of the key escutcheons (which is also missing a screw), but stock is overall sound. Mechanically good except trigger releases hammer from half cock. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
