Interesting C1840 underhammer percussion rifle by Nicanor Kendall of Windsor, VT. Marked on top of barrel "N.KENDALL/WINDSOR/VT PATENT". 24" long 1-3/16" octagon barrel of about .50 caliber bore. Wonderful original sights, with rear sight serial numbered 160, which matches the 160 on the buttplate. Stock is an interesting design, built of nicely figured maple, with a slender profile but overall thickness. Flats by the action have an interesting brass border that goes from the top of the action down around under the triggerguard. Interestingly shaped, graceful triggerguard. Attractive patina overall with some pitting around the nipple. Stock is very good with average use evident and a minor grain crack on top of wrist. Two small inlays are missing from the butt, two ramrod pipes are missing, part of the trigger is broken off, and the hammer was crudely rebuilt. Does not function mechanically. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
