C1820-40 percussion conversion militia musket with lock marked "R.ASHMORE/WARRANTED". 40-1/4" barrel of .69 caliber bore. Metal parts have a dark patina overall with some pitting present in the barrel breech. Unusual rhomboid silver barrel key escutcheons, one absent. Sling swivels are absent. Stock is nicely checkered in the wrist and has a scalloped cheekrest. The wrist was cracked long ago and repaired with small screws; crack shows only the slightest play when stressed. Stock otherwise shows smooth wear from use with a long sliver missing from the forearm edge on the left side. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
