Confederate P1853 Enfield musket marked on lock TOWER 1863 - $1750.00

P1853 Enfield musket marked on lock TOWER 1863. Has Confederate-associated marks behind the triggerguard, the most readable of which appears to be a crown over STA over 4. A second mark below it is JS over crown over R with a third identical mark closer to the triggerguard. It is unknown if the JS relates to the JS-anchor mark on Confederate-associated Enfields. The "R" mark bears a similarity to "furnisher" marks found on Confederate-associated Enfields. Underside of butt has stock maker marking "JOSEPH SMITH". Barrel breech area was cleaned slightly to expose barrel proofs, but rest of gun was left uncleaned. Stock is uncleaned with a smooth appearance showing scattered marks from handling, has a piece of wood missing above the rear of the lock and a repaired crack in front of the lock. Rear band is cracked and loose. Ramrod is absent. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
