British M1779 Brown Bess musket, marked on lock "H.NOCK" and marked on the barrel "87TH REGT". The 87th Regiment of Foot, "The Prince of Wales Irish Regiment", had an interesting service history, including the fighting in the Anglo-Spanish War in Puerto Rico, the Coalition Peninsula Campaign against Napoleon, and later in India. Has additional markings on buttplate tang. 42" barrel. Metal parts show wear and use with patina and some pitting on iron parts and brass parts having been lightly cleaned. Stock shows moderate wear and use overall, with a good deal of wear around the stock pins, a stress crack in lower lock mortise from the mainspring, a small crack by the rear lock bolt, a few diagonal cracks in the forearm edges, and a piece of wood missing from the tip of the forearm on the right side. Lock functions outside of the gun, but doesn't like to fully cock when installed. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
