Springfield M1879 .45-70 saddle ring carbine. Serial number 187375*, made in late 1882, with the star denoting a gun that was worked on by the armory. Well marked including "P" proof in stock and 1882 SWP dated cartouche. Correct original carbine configuration with "C" marked rear sight, saddle ring, triggerguard without sling swivel, and buttplate with door that opens to an implement compartment. Metal parts are a mix of original blue finish with scattered minor rust specks and mottled patina. Stock show light wear with an attractive open grain and scattered minor marks from handling. Butt is marked boldly on each side and on comb with letter "A" and "373" on comb only. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
