Springfield M1879 .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 282501. Standard configuration with 32-5/8" round barrel. Untouched appearance overall with dark patina on metal parts and stock. Wood is visibly cartouched 1884 opposite lock and "P" proofed behind triggerguard. Shows average wear and use overall with a couple handling dents on the right side of the forearm and several tack holes, one of which is square, suggesting the use of 19th century tacks. Has one small grain check in the butt by the buttplate. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
