C1840-60 percussion buggy rifle or blanket gun. Shortened during the period of use from a longer gun. 13-3/8" octagon barrel of about .42 caliber bore and 3/4" width. Josh Golcher marked percussion trade lock. Trefoil patchbox with light engraving. Metal parts have a medium to dark patina overall with some rust on the lock and barrel. Sideplate has long been absent, and forearm is loose to barrel due to the loss of a little wood at the tip where it was pinned to the barrel. Stock has an interesting checkered teardrop-shaped cheek piece. Wood has an untouched patina and a crack in the area of the sideplate mortise. Buttplate is missing a screw. Hammer has spring tension, does not cock fully, holds at half cock and releases when the trigger is pulled. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
