C1850-80 Bedford County, Pennsylvania style percussion longrifle. Iconic lock and hammer profile used by the smiths of Bedford county. Script "D" is visible on the lock, possibly representing a member of the Defibaugh family of gunmakers in that location. 42-3/4" octagon barrel of about 0.37" bore and between 7/8" and 15/16" in width. Metal parts have a medium to dark patina overall with some pitting on the barrel and lock. Front sight may be a replacement. Stock is of the thin and graceful profile associated with Bedford County rifles, made without patchbox, has a stained striping to simulate tiger maple, overall has been sanded and lightly refinished, having a crack and chips by the locating pin in the rear of triggerguard, crack extending from front of sideplate, and missing a couple well-worn slivers from the forward half of the right side of the forearm. Trigger sets, but hammer does not cock. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
