British P1856/58 2-band percussion muzzleloading rifle. Commercial model built with features of the P1856 and P1858. First class arm appreciated by both sides in the American Civil War. Marked on lock "POTTS & HUNT/LONDON" and London proofed on barrel with "25" gauge mark for .577 caliber. Sabre bayonet lug on upper barrel band. Metal parts have a pleasing untouched patina overall, showing little use and virtually free of pitting. Stock also shows little use with well-defined edges, free of cracks and chips, with some minuscule nicks to the ramrod channel edges and some scattered handling marks. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
