Harpers Ferry M1795 Type III flintlock musket dated 1813 on lock. Nicely marked lock and proofed barrel, stock proofs well-worn but shadows remain. Gun is well used, and barrel was shortened about 1" to 43-1/2" long, probably because the muzzle was wearing out from having been fired. Metal parts have a medium to dark patina with some pitting and dings in the barrel breech area. The flash hole is worn very wide with commensurate spot of wear to the flashpan. Stock is well-worn but seems to have never been cleaned, as it still has defined edges. There is a deep worn dent in the right buttstock comb, small crack by lock screw, some small cracks behind barrel tang, small spot of worn worn away from powder flash behind the hammer, and some very minor edge nicking to the ramrod channel. This gun appears to be a carefully used veteran of many years. It is honest as-is, but also has the option of carefully relocating the barrel bands and adding the bayonet stud to create an original appearance, as the barrel is long enough to be considered full length. Still retains strong mechanical function. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
