American restocked French Charleville M1766 musket. Original length 44-3/4" barrel with proof at breech and long sporting blade sight applied near muzzle. Sideplate is proofed, lock is boldly marked and proofed. Lock is cleaned, other parts have a medium to dark patina except triggerguard that was protected by some varnish. Stock is fashioned in an American "Roman nose" butt profile, shortened to half stock configuration with ramrod mounted in a rib under the barrel. Furnishings are French military, except the domed oval wrist escutcheon, ramrod entry ferule, and forearm cap. Stock has an added varnished finish, has couple cracks by the sideplate, small chip in toe of butt, a couple small cracks by barrel tang, small chip in lock mortise, and a couple chips/slivers to forearm edge near forearm cap. Has a nice antique ramrod utilizing an early UMC .45-70 cartridge casing headstamped "R B". Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
