nice American restock of an early British third model Brown Bess musket with gooseneck cock. 39-3/8" barrel. Stock is well-executed, but its flat forearm sides and border line carving along the forearm reveal the woodwork to not be a British product. Barrel is British proofed with storekeeper's mark on the barrel tang and a TOWER/GR marked lock. Brass parts are a light yellow and iron parts have dark patina with some pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock has a period red-pigmented wavy decoration most visible in the butt, the wood shows average wear and use overall with some scattered scratches and handling marks, has a small crack by the rear lock bolt, a small flake from behind the barrel tang from recoil, and a small chip in the lower lock mortise. This musket may have been made up for American forces during the War of 1812. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
