Ames Jenks US Navy carbine. With its companion rifle, these are the only longarms made by prominent sword maker Nathan P. Ames, and including the Maynard primed carbine, the only "side slapper" "mule ear" arms produced for the US military. Standard barrel markings including date of 1845 and "RC" inspector mark. Stock cartouche opposite lock is visible. Has scarcer round loading aperture in barrel breech. Metal parts have a light to medium coloration overall with some pitting present on the lockplate. Stock is lightly cleaned with a light added finish overall, has a chip missing from above the lock and scattered expected handling marks overall. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
