Jenks Navy carbine, made by N.P.Ames of Springfield, Massachusetts. Dated 1845 on top of barrel. 25" barrel of .52 caliber bore. Has scarcer rounded loading aperture in top of barrel. Lock is absent, as is most of the operating lever, and screws from the barrel bands. Nipple is broken off in barrel. Markings are relatively clear, and metal parts have a medium patina overall. Stock is good overall, shows light use with some scattered handling marks, little spots of paint spatter, and three light cracks in the lock mortise/wrist area. A scarce gun worthy of restoration, the Jenks series were the only "mule ear" percussion weapons procured by the US government. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
