US contract J.H.Hall M1843 saddle ring carbine, made by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut. Original configuration with 21" round, .52 caliber smoothbore barrel. This model is the only Hall firearm made with a side-mounted operating lever. No markings are visible except for a small "JH" inspector mark at left of barrel breech. Metal parts are mostly a dark patina overall, showing some pitting in the breech area from having been used, and some dings in the breech block in front of the hammer. Stock is good, showing average wear and marks from handling, has old initials "H.F." and "SD" intertwined on left side of butt. Wood shows some minor chipping to the ramrod channel and has some well-executed wood work with a replaced piece behind the frame, where there is often a piece missing. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
