Ethan Allen "Drop Breech" military style carbine. Serial number 2285. 26" part octagon, part round barrel, 44 caliber rifled bore. Marked on top of frame "E.ALLEN&CO.WORCESTER.MASS/ALLEN'S PAT SEPT 18 1860." This style Allen, with the conventional rear sight, and large bore, is most associated with military use, though there was not a United States contract for them. Originally had sling swivels on a barrel ring and in a plate (still present) in the belly of the butt. Barrel has a plumb patina, frame and other metal parts are a medium brown patina. Stocks are very good, showing light wear and use with a couple light dings, a small sliver missing from right forearm edge near tip, and a small hairline crack rear of lower frame tang. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
