Rare M1867 Springfield Cadet .50-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Only 424 produced. As described in Flayderman 9A-358, 1866 dated breechblock with ridge in high arch, specially made 1867 dated lockplate with fine markings. Also features light stock, 29-3/4" barrel, light buttplate, and carbine triggerguard without sling swivel. Metal parts have a brown patina overall with minimal scattered pitting. Stock has some added finish with scattered moderate marks overall and a well-repaired break in the wrist that was pegged and disguised well. Also has some well-disguised chips repaired in the lock mortise and a small piece of wood replaced above the front lock screw. Rack number 66 stamped below sight on left side. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
