C1860 Southern American percussion half stock rifle. Marked on lock "SMITH RHODES & CO/RICHMOND VA", who are listed as having operated in 1861. A script signature appears on the barrel that seems to read "John Haih" but is hard to read and is as yet unlocated. 36" octagon barrel. Simple brass furniture that appears to be southern made and lightly cleaned. The barrel and lock have dark patina with some pitting present. Stock shows average wear and use overall, having been cleaned with a satin finish added. There is an 1857 "flying eagle" cent installed in the left side of the butt. Stock shows average marks from storage, small crack at forearm tip, small crack by lock screw and small chip above front of lock. Nice original ochre striped ramrod. Functions mechanically, but is worn and sometimes the trigger doesn't want to set. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
