C1865 halfstock percussion rifle by W.K.Darling of Otego, Michigan. 32" long 1-1/16" octagon barrel, turned at muzzle for bullet starter, but not drilled for false muzzle. About .36 caliber bore. Marked on top of barrel "W.K.DARLING CAST STEEL". Barrel has a brown-blue finish that may be original, which is mixed with patina. Gun overall has an untouched patina and virtually free of pitting. Wonderful target sights with vernier tang sight with a wheel featuring four different apertures, front globe sight with insert. Matchbox engraved with beautiful star with four swirls within. Barrel has two holes drilled, rear one tapped, 2-7/8" on center apart. Barrel has an empty dovetail for a rear sight. Hammer has spring tension, but does not cock. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
