C1860 short-barreled smooth rifle, built with a J.BISHOP (Philadelphia) marked lock and what looks like a shortened M1841 US "Mississippi" rifle barrel. 24" barrel with US government proofs at barrel breech. Rear sight mortise filled. Metal parts have an uneven patina with pitting in the barrel breech. Missing the very tip of the buttplate tang. Stock is worn from use with some wood filler around the lock screw, minor chipping on the forearm edges and some wood burned away from behind the hammer. Mechanically good, though the mainspring is a little weak, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
