C18th century flintlock boxlock tinderlighter. This tinderlighter's large and plain but careful craftsmanship suggests it could possibly be an American product. 7-1/2" overall length, about 1" wide. Fold-down tinder storage compartment in front of device. Iron parts show wear and use with a medium patina and worn old pitting. Wood grip shows average wear and use with an added finish and some wood filler applied around the upper tang. Hammer holds at half cock, but does not engage fully at full cock.
