US M1842 percussion musket. Barrel shortened to 40-1/2", stock appears to be original length. No markings visible. Ramrod, sling swivels, middle band and spring, upper band and spring are absent, butt altered with no buttplate. Barrel has a sight mortise, but bore does not show any rifling. Metal parts have a dark, uncleaned patina overall with scattered moderate pitting. Stock is heavily worn with ramrod channel slivered and worn, buttstock thinned down with unusual triangular piece inset long ago. Lock functions, but is not crisp. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
