M1808 US contract musket by Winner, Nippes, & Steinman. Marked on lock with eagle over US in oval in front of hammer and "W.N&S./PHILAd" at rear of lock. 44-1/2" barrel. Stock shortened to behind the lower barrel band and separate buttstock wood added. Ramrod and sling swivel absent. Metal parts have an uncleaned patina overall with some light rust in the barrel breech. Stock is cracked in the wrist from where the buttstock repair was done, a small piece of the toe of the buttplate is missing along with some wood, and has a period metal toe plate installed. Mechanically good except releases from half cock when the trigger is pulled, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
