English P1853 TOWER Enfield musket dated 1862 on lock. Standard British barrel proofs with "24" gauge marking. 24 gauge indicates 58 caliber for the US market in the civil war. Metal parts have a light patina on the brass and medium patina on iron parts and some light rust. Appears virtually free of pitting with little use to the metal, the lock being nicely marked with border lines. Stock shows average wear and use overall, with numerous light to moderate handling marks overall. Ramrod channel has some old worn chipping, a well-disguised repaired crack in right forearm edge between lower and middle barrel bands, and a replaced piece of wood to left of barrel tang. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
