P1853 British Enfield percussion musket. Marked on lock TOWER 1862. Barrel shows Birmingham proofs with "25" gauge mark. Metal parts show typical wear and use with a medium to dark patina with some pitting in the barrel breech area. Nipple and barrel tang screw are replaced, rear sight is a very old fixed replacement, middle band, one lock bolt escutcheon, and sling swivels are absent. Stock is good, showing average wear and use overall, name "MAY" lightly carved in right side of butt and initials "J:D" in left side of butt. Stock shows a small crack by the lock bolt and a small crack behind the hammer. Otherwise, stock shows some minor nicks to the edges and expected marks from handling and use. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
