Springfield M1879 .45-70 saddle ring carbine. Serial number 138295, made in late 1880. Has earlier 1873 dated lock and barrel band with stacking swivel. Correct original carbine configuration with "C" marked rear sight, saddle ring, triggerguard without sling swivel, and buttplate with door that opens to an implement compartment. Metal parts are a mix of original blue finish with scattered minor rust specks. Stock show average wear and use, being worn smooth with scattered minor handling marks and a concentrated area of scarring in the right side of the forearm. Has an old "9" tag just in front of the buttplate tang. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
