Ethan Allen "Drop Breech" military style carbine. Serial number 2670. 41 caliber rifled bore. Marked on top of frame "E.ALLEN&CO.WORCESTER.MASS/ALLEN'S PAT SEPT 18 1860." This style Allen, with the conventional rear sight, sling swivels, and large bore, is most associated with military use, though there was not a United States contract for them. 26" part octagon, part round barrel. Barrel has fine original blue finish, frame and other metal parts are light to medium patina with slight scattered granularness. Stocks are very good, small grain crack on bottom of forestock, small crack at top and bottom frame tangs, and scattered minor marks overall. There is a neatly and deliberately carved symbol on the left side of the butt that bears some resemblance to a running deer, and looks to be rather old. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
