Springfield M1888 .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 537345. Good SWP 1892 cartouche in stock opposite lock. Metal parts have a brown patina overall. Interesting Maltese cross marking on left side of receiver. Stock is rack marked "9 I 19" in front of buttplate tang. These markings are attributed to the NY 9th Volunteer Militia. Stock is very good, having scattered handling marks, a scratch below the front lock bolt, two dings along left side of triggerguard, and a hairline crack behind the lock. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
