Springfield M1888 .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle with rod bayonet. Serial number 529127. Stock cartouche opposite lock is clear and dated 1891. Metal parts have a pleasing untouched light rust patina overall. Butt is neatly marked "71" over "213" in right side, and "C" over "63" in front of buttplate tang. Stock is uncleaned and shows light to moderate handling marks, a cross-shaped carving in the left side of the butt, a small chip behind the upper band on the right side, and a hairline diagonal grain crack on each side of the forearm. Rod bayonet operates smoothly. Mechanically good except firing pin is frozen, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
