M1879 Springfield .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 421439. Standard configuration with 32-5/8" barrel. Metal parts are uncleaned with deep patina and some pitting in the barrel breech. Needs a firing pin, extractor is absent, as is the barrel tang screw. Stock is uncleaned with a good 1883 dated stock cartouche and "P" firing proof. Wood shows wear and use, free of cracks, with a couple small slivers in the cleaning rod channel, expected light handling marks overall, and a few moderate handling dings. Lock is mechanically functional. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
