M1879 Springfield .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 196292. Standard configuration except with earlier smooth trigger and slotless rear sight screws. Metal parts are uncleaned with mostly a brown patina, having some areas of original blue finish present. Stock is uncleaned with a good 1882 dated stock cartouche and "P" firing proof. Wood shows wear and use, free of cracks, with some minor chips in the cleaning rod channel, expected light handling marks overall, and a few moderate handling dings. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
