C1840-60 percussion muzzleloading target rifle. 35" octagon barrel of 1-1/4" width and .44 caliber bore. G.Goulcher marked trade lock. Handmade tang sight and empty rear mortise in barrel. Unusual double cheekrest with crescent and star inlay on each side, additional star inlay on each side of forearm. Metal parts have a medium patina overall with pitting in the barrel breech area. Curly maple halfstock has nice grain beneath uncleaned patina. Has a crack in the toe of the butt, crack below the lock, and crack in left side of forearm. Has some wood filler around the lock below the bolster, small spot in front of the triggerguard and on left side of forearm near the tip, below the bolster may have had a metal piece originally. Mechanically good set triggers. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
