C1840-60 percussion halfstock rifle with lock marked "FORD BROTHERS". 40-1/2" octagon barrel of 7/8" width and 0.39" bore. Metal parts have a smooth medium to dark patina overall with some pitting present in the barrel breech area. Hammer has a small chip to the edge of the nose. Has nice original open sights. Barrel with brass under rib and possibly original ramrod. Stock has 8 inlays of silver and german silver in addition to the stock pin escutcheons. Wood shows smooth wear overall, has a chip to the forearm tip which is also missing part of the pewter nosecap, broken with slight play and apparent gluing in the lock area with a small filled sliver above the front of the lock. Mechanically good with set trigger, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
