Massive snaphaunce flintlock brass barreled pistol. Faint marking visible on barrel "BARBAR LONDON" with clear maker cartouche "IB" over star, for prominent gunmaker James Barbar who operated from 1742-1773. 13-1/2" round barrel of about .68 caliber, about 22-1/2" overall. Decorated brass barrel bands, long snaphaunce lock, large clamshell-shaped butt. Brass parts have light coloration, iron parts have a dark patina with some pitting. Stock shows average wear and use overall, being cracked in the grip and behind the lock, small chip behind barrel tang from recoil, and old slivers missing from ramrod channel and left edge of forearm. Hammer has strong spring tension, but does not cock. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
