M1797 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania percussion conversion musket by John Miles. Nicely marked "MILES/CP" at rear of lock and proofed with "CP" mark at barrel breech, additionally proofed in stock opposite lock. 41" round barrel with bead front sight. Metal parts have an untouched chocolate patina overall with some minimal pitting in the barrel breech. Ramrod is absent. Stock is shortened to the area of where the lower barrel band was, wood overall has an old added finish with handling abrasions from over the years, scattered marks from handling, old chip to rear of lock mortise, period initials "P.U" in left side of butt, and lightly scratched "XXX" in left buttstock comb. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
