Scarce M1881 Springfield "trapdoor" forager shotgun. Serial number 1139. Correct, original gun with 1881 dated breech block, 1873 dated lock, carbine triggerguard, and stock made from civil war musket stock with ramrod channel plugged. Metal parts have a mottled light patina overall. Stock has a visible 1883 dated cartouche with wood showing a good deal of wear and use overall, as usually observed on this model. Wood has numerous dings from handling and use but is structurally sound. Has one small filled spot in front of front lock screw opposite lock. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
