Rare Stevens bored Winchester M1885 "Low Wall" single shot sporting rifle. Serial number 7749, made in 1887. Comes with a 1998 Cody Firearms Museum "Not a Factory Letter" request by MT Outfitters confirming basic details of 24" #3 octagon barrel and 22 SHORT caliber as marked on barrel. Also marked "REBORED AND RIFLED/BY J.STEVENS A&T CO/CHICOPEE FALLS MASS.U.S.A." Comes with a copy of a period Stevens catalogue offering reboring services. Reputedly chambered for 25 Stevens rimfire. Original rear sight mortise filled and Stevens vernier tang sight installed at time of reboring. Metal parts have an untouched dark patina with some scattered pitting. Stocks are very good, showing scattered average handling marks, and a long crack in the forearm associated with a long sliver missing on right side of forearm edge. From the estate collection of Lewis & Leyton Yearout of Montana. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
