Springfield M1866 "Second Allin" .50-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Dated 1866 on breechblock and 1865 on lock. Visible cartouches in stock opposite lock. Attractive uncleaned metal parts with a light rust patina overall. Stock has old varnished finish with darker areas where finish is absent. Wood shows scattered handling marks overall with a minor crack at rear of lock. We have left this gun untouched, but may benefit from being carefully cleaned if desired. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
