Springfield M1873 .45-70 "trapdoor" infantry rifle. Serial number 44868. This is an early "pre-Custer" gun that was later upgraded with various improvements. The gun retains its early-numbered receiver, "high arch" breech block, and smooth trigger. Cleaning rod, lock, rear sight are upgraded. Metal parts have a plumb patina with some original blue finish present. Stock looks to have had some finish added at some point, has some minor chipping to the cleaning rod channel, and some scattered moderate handling marks, but is in sound condition overall. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
