Remington M1879 Argentine rolling block military rifle. Highly unusual to find in the original blue with color casehardened frame, virtually all of them seem to have been refurbished in blue. 36" round barrel with octagon breech. .43 caliber. Adapted for sabre bayonet. Finely stamped Remington three line marking on frame tang. Barrel has very fine original blue and receiver has vivid color casehardening with areas of gray and some speckles of light patina. Other metal parts are a light gray patina. Stock is very good, has a deeply sunken inspector mark on right side of wrist and in front of buttplate tang. Wood is very good, showing several moderate handling marks scattered, and a round mark behind the upper frame tang that looks like a dowel could be in it, but no apparent crack. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
