C1850-60 fine percussion fullstock rifle. Marked on left side of barrel "J&D LITTLE", a firm listed as having operated from 1852-1860 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 36-3/4" octagon barrel of about .31 caliber bore, muzzle has three holes for false muzzle and bullet starter. Needs lock, ramrod, barrel pins and 3 screws. Metal parts have a light patina overall with an old filled sight mortise above ramrod ferule, and an old unfilled sight mortise in the barrel tang. Has original open sights. Curly maple stock has tight "fiddleback" grain, expertly replaced piece above lock mortise and some old cracks in the forearm edge on left side near muzzle. Toe of butt has a small chip missing with the buttplate bent around the chip long ago to protect against further damage. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
