C1850-80 percussion halfstock rifle marked on barrel "W.M.GARDNER". Several possible matches are possible for this name in Sellers' "American Gunsmiths" from New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. 33-1/2" long 1-3/16" octagon barrel of .40 caliber bore. Metal parts have an attractive medium patina overall with some expected ppitting in bolster area. Has a nice original folding "lollipop" tang sight. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
