Peabody State of Connecticut marked rifle. .433 caliber, as per Flayderman's Guide 9B-081. Plate in toe of stock marked "CONN/1854". Marked on left side of frame "PEABODY'S PAT/JULY 22.1862/MANF'D BY/PROVIDENCE TOOL CO/PROV R.I.", on barrel "G.F.G." "P" proof, inspector initials "EE" and "W", rack number "29" in stock behind frame, "W.C." and "JHC" script cartouches in stock opposite lock. Frame and lock have some muted case colors mixing with medium patina, barrel with fine original blue finish, other parts with medium untouched patina. Stock is very good with an attractive patina and minor handling marks overall, has an long age check in the butt on both side, a mall crack behind the upper band on the left side of the forearm, and some minor nicking to the edges of the cleaning rod channel. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
