C1840-60 percussion halfstock rifle. 36-1/2" octagon barrel. No maker markings apparent, top of barrel has some unusual markings or symbols at breech. Nice untouched patina overall with attractive patina. Barrel breech and lock show some pitting from use. Nicely shaped brass patchbox with heart-shaped cutout. Interesting sideplate with cutout. Fancy triggerguard with two spurs. German silver football-shaped inlay at top of wrist. Fancy escutcheon in left side of butt. Has an interesting piece of sheet brass added behind the hammer to prevent further erosion of the wood from cap burn. Missing a small piece of the toe plate from the butt. One ramrod pipe absent. Nice antique wooden rod with hand carved cleaning jag on end. Walnut stock is good, showing average wear and use, has a small crack at the right tip of the forearm, small piece of wood missing from front of lock that has been gone a long time, hole from where forearm pin was relocated long ago, and various minor marks from use and handling. Overall, this is a wonderful untouched gun that shows the signs of a great deal of respectful use over a long period. Triggers will set and hammer has spring tension, but does not cock. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
