Fine C1840 percussion curly maple fullstock rifle. Signed on barrel "A * T * W". 35-3/4" octagon barrel with dot and starburst decoration on muzzle. About .32 caliber bore. Nice original sights. Brass parts have a light mustard patina, iron parts have a deep untouched smooth chocolate patina with a little expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock has a bold, tight flaming curly maple character virtually the entire area, has an old added finish that shows minor expected marks, a grain crack in the forearm edge in front of the lock, and a wrist crack that seems to have been repaired well and shows no play. Handmade lock with lockplate following the contours of a classic Bedford county lock. 33-3/4" plain ramrod could be original, and has patina from having been in the gun as photographed for a long time. Mechanically good with set triggers. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
