C1830-40 fullstock flintlock rifle by Joseph Haberstro of Buffalo, NY, who is listed in Sellers' "American Gunsmiths" as having worked from 1832-1844. Rifle is signed on top of the barrel "HABERSTRO BUFFALO" with additional marking "FILE RIFLE" the meaning of which is unknown. This is an interesting example of cross-border trade with Canada, having a "J.Clark/Toronto" marked trade lock. 37-1/2" octagon barrel of large bore size. Original open rear and bead front sight. Plain brass hardware. Attractive patina overall. Stock has attractive curly maple grain with a nice patina, and a well-disguised crack repair in the wrist that utilizes two pegs. Otherwise stock appears fine and free of major cracks or chips. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
