Lindsay patent superposed load two-shot percussion pocket pistol - $950.00

Lindsay patent superposed load two-shot percussion pocket pistol. This pistol is the baby brother to the well-known Lindsay musket, which carried two loads, one in front of the other in the barrel, and functions with two hammers and one trigger. When both hammers are cocked, a careful squeeze of the trigger sets off the right hammer, then another squeeze releases the left. Problems with flame from the front load touching off the rear load, and the increasing popularity of cartridge arms doomed the Lindsay system to obscurity. 4" barrel, about 6-3/4" overall. Brass parts have an uneven patina and iron parts are lightly to moderately pitted overall with a good amount of the engraving on the left side visible and readily visible patent markings on underside of barrel. Wood grips are slightly shrunken and were cleaned, with some shallow gouging around the right screw escutcheon. Functions mechanically. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
