US Springfield M1842 musket dated 1849 on lock. Markings on lock are excellent, barrel proofs and stock cartouche are visible. Metal parts appear to have been cleaned at some point with a light rust patina overall and some pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock has been lightly cleaned with light added finish. Has period initials "WG" neatly engraved at heel of right side of butt. Wood shows scattered moderate handling marks overall, a couple minor nicks to the ramrod channel, and a small crack by the rear lock screw.
