Springfield M1842 percussion musket, dated 1846 on lock. Eagle marking on lock is worn away, barrel proofs are good. Original length barrel, forearm of stock is restored from under the lower band forward, with an incorrect middle barrel band and correct style front barrel band. Metal parts are a light to medium gray coloration overall with scattered pitting that is more concentrated on the lock, heel of buttplate, and breech of barrel. Stock is lightly cleaned with some minor handling marks and a small filled chip behind barrel tang. Lower sling swivel is broken off, middle band does not have provision for sling swivel. This is a good early dated example that could have seen service in the Mexican-American War. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
